The stolen generation shows people with families who are together, and close, how terrible the ordeal would have been. Families, particularly parents, are the support network for their children, teaching them how to be good people and how they should act. Parents are there to nurture their children, and without the nurturing environment needed, the life of their children is set up to be riddled with hardships and bad choices. ‘To err is human, to forgive divine’ means that to make mistakes, or errors, is a an something that humans do, where when people forgive, they are acting in a divine way. The extreme error in judgement by the British migrants in Australia, of the taking of Aboriginal children for a morally illegitimate reason was a human error. Despite the constant and continuing struggle for rights and compensation from the Aboriginals affected and their descendents, forgiveness is being achieved. The indigenous people are working on forgiveness so that they can move on and mature spiritually. If we continue to work at achieving forgiveness, it can be achieved and although it will never be forgotten, the Aboriginals involved can be at peace with their ordeal.
