The stolen generation was an event that changed the lives of most indigenous people in some way. The stolen generation was a period of time from around 1869 to 1940 (Humanrights.gov.au, 2015), where the Australian Government had the authority to remove Aboriginal children from their homes. This came from an act called the Aborigines Protection Act (Vic). This consisted of people called the ‘Protectors of Aboriginals’ going to the homes of Aboriginal people and taking the children to various institutions or foster homes. (Korff, J. 2015) Despite the fact that the Aboriginal children are happy and healthy in their homes, they were being assimilated into traditional ‘white’ society. This was a disgusting ordeal, that impacted over 50,000 children just in the years between 1910 and 1970 (Windschuttle, K. 2015) The most upsetting part of this issue is that it is still happening today. Despite the fact that it became illegal to take Aboriginal children out of their homes in 1940, there are still stories of children being ‘stolen’ today.
